Hindu Marriage ceremony

Marriage means a lot in every individual life. In India marriages are considered as blessing of gods, parents, family and friends. Marriage creates a holy relationship between a man and woman. Marriage gives the legality and authority to a bride to stay with her groom and start their life newly with love and responsibility. In Hindu community, marriages are viewed as a sacrament not as a contract.

The marriage ceremony consists of several steps. But the main steps are Mehendi and Marriage Ceremony

Mehendi and Peethi

This function is happened before a day of wedding. In this function, bride decorate her palms and feet with Mehendi. Both bride and groom apply turmeric and oil over the body for cleansing and make it soft and aromatics. This function gives both bride and groom a fresh look.

Many ritual functions happened in both bride and groom home. Inviting guest, preparing sweets in home, decorating light and many ablution ritual happens.

Marriage Ceremony:

The Marriage ceremony is Hindu community is long and elaborate which follows the Vedic traditions and vows. In Hindu marriage bride and groom takes vow while moving around the holy fire, which is placed on the marriage Mandap or canopy.

Vows are:-

1. Earn a living for their family and respect their abundance
2 Live a healthy life style for each other
3. Be concerned for partner’s welfare
4. Live together as friends… enjoy happiness and friendship throughout their lives
5 To eat and drink with each other and be with each other on special occasions
6 Desire children for whom they will be responsible and love
7 Adapt to the other persons at any given time and place
